From the book:
The women are dying, or have done something bad, or have had something bad done to them or wake every morning & work. The crows have the angel apparatus & ugly devil feet. They approach the sky like English. I watch things carefully. People see me. These birds, there is a moment when they decide to open & fly. The terrible moment when I feel myself breathe–the muscle & bone moving, my lungs unfolding.
